Premium online tea brand Vahdam Teas has raised $650K funding from angel investors including Mumbai Angels Network, Singapore Angel Network, Kanwaljit Singh’s Fireside Ventures, Anand Ladsariya and Ajay Pandey.

Bala Sarda, founder of Vahdam Teas, said, “The absence of a home-grown brand had led to a massive dependence of the entire industry on foreign brands, which quickly move to teas from other regions when local farmers increase their price. It was then that I decided to take the plunge with Vahdam Teas.”

Started in 2016 by Bala Sarda, Vahdam Teas is a vertically-integrated, online-first tea brand. All Vahdam teas are procured directly from plantations and tea growers within 24-72 hours of production and are shipped directly from their sources in India. The company has already shipped Darjeeling and other teas to more than 76 countries, and will use the funds to focus on marketing, product development and opening a warehouse in the US.

Kanwaljit Singh of Fireside Ventures said, “This is a great business opportunity, and Bala, with his family’s heritage in the tea business, is the ideal entrepreneur to realise it.”

The company also aims to empower farmers by eliminating the middlemen and ensuring a direct and fair trade with them. It sources garden fresh teas directly from over 150 tea plantations & door deliveries to consumers across the world.
